The SMSIDK CREW'S hearts to go out to Kanye West, his family and friends, Ms. West's untimely death was a shock to all of us and those that I know who knew her personally said her smile, spirit and love will be missed dearly. Out blessings and prayers to you Mr. West.
So, when i decided to come to college station [read: middle of nowhere] texas for grad school i thought i knew what i was getting into. I knew it would be a shock moving from Chicago where theres ALWAYS somethin to get into
to here...where they turn off the streetlights at midnight
but i figured...if i focus on school and all the other projects i have goin on (like im a tell yall) and take trips whenever i can i can hack it. Most times it's decent. I have music, movies, turntables, books, and a group of friends that get me by But...in the past year there have been certain times where i wish i could just BE somewhere else...I wont catalog all of them but I'll give you the most recent incident.
So...ive decided to stop ripping music from the internet and actually waiting until release dates and buying the actual albums from the stores. Something about this culture of instant gratifyication and remembering that patience is a virtue blah blah blah...so all my friends are raving about how Little Brother's album GetBack is soooooooooo illy right!?
So the day comes...October 23rd and I take my ass to bestbuy...ITS NOT THERE
Yo im walkin around the music section like its some kinda joke. I look in EVERY isle; even showtunes and country music. Shit...i even check the DVD releases...nothing. And when i ask a sales associate...he has NO IDEA who or what "a little brother" is. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn sun. So then i call target and all the other stores in the area...NOTHING. I mean wowzers...First they bring Soulja Boy down here to perform...now they DONT carry Little Brother...this is officially Hip Hop Hell.

FILM SYNOPSIS Two hours off the shores of Miami Beach, Haiti lies nestled next to the Dominican Republic, ignored by the rest of the world. It is a country of poverty and despair and violence. But to the vast majority of people who have never set foot in Haiti, "Hell" is the only word that can truly convey its condition of life. This is where GHOSTS OF CITE SOLEIL takes place.
The reality of life today in Haiti unfolds before us as we get to know two brothers and their stories intimately. They are 2Pac and Bily,haitian gang leaders who strive to make better choices in a world with no choices at all. Through unprecedented access, we see the brothers' love and hatred for each other, their love triangle with Lele, a French relief worker, and their unsavory pact with President Aristide during his desperate grasp to maintain power in early 2004. Speaking the language of violence and knowing that staying alive in Haiti is a very day-to-day proposition, 2Pac and Bily struggle to find a better life for themselves and for their people.
